“Sometimes your only available transportation is a leap of faith.”– Margaret Shepard

How often do we need to have all the answers before we are willing to attempt something? If the path isn’t clear and the outcome isn’t guaranteed we don’t bother. Many of us want to be sure of success before we even attempt something.

For my dissertation research I compared how much belief people had in their ability to be successful at a new task with their mind set when they went into it. Those that were looking to master a new skill had a strong belief that they would be successful. Those that primarily needed to be successful were more incline to give up. The fear of failure outweighing the desire to succeed. Many of the folks with the need to be successful – dropped out before attempting the final task. Most of those that were in it to master a new skill – went on to successfully complete the task.

This leap of faith is such a challenge. How do we jump in – take the chance – go forward – learn and grow? How do we get past the fear of stumbling on our way to success? It’s obviously easier if we have a passion for it.

Find your passion and go for it!
